She earned her license in 2013 after completing a mid-life career change to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. Dr. Steese has worked in a variety of settings, including hospice, a social skills training program for children with autism, and sober transitional living environments for homeless veterans. She has conducted equine-assisted therapy with veterans using rescued horses and assisted in research at UCSD involving individuals with schizophrenia or dementia enrolled in clinical research trials. Victoria's areas of expertise include grief and loss, trauma, substance abuse, depression, and anxiety. She specializes in helping families recover from the loss of a loved one to suicide. Her approach to therapy includes teaching compassionate mindfulness and acceptance, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
