Getting to know Vielka Johnson

My name is Vielka E. Johnson. I received my BA in Psychology in 1996 from the University of Colorado. In 1998, I relocated to San Antonio, TX, and pursued my master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Webster University. By 2006, I received my counseling license from the Texas State Board of Examiners, becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have been fortunate to work with a diverse population within our community. My background is primarily with children and adolescents ages 3 to 18; however, I have also worked with young adults and adults up to age 65+. I have worked in a variety of settings, including community agencies, school settings, and residential facilities. I have experience working with therapeutic foster care children, family domestic violence, mental and physical abuse, the mobile crisis unit, and crisis intervention. I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT and incorporate different modalities and approaches to address the needs of each client. I am deeply committed to assisting clients in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, learning new skills to achieve their goals, and improving their lives. In addition to my experience, I have a background in teaching Bible studies for over 10 years and incorporate faith-based counseling services when appropriate.
