What should a new client know about working with you?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and you do not have to have everything figured out before you begin. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, supported, and comfortable being yourself. I work with teens, adults, couples, families, and veterans navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, life transitions, stress, burnout, self-esteem, and other challenges. My approach is warm, collaborative, practical, and tailored to you. We will talk about what is happening in your life, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and develop realistic tools you can use outside of therapy. I believe therapy should be more than simply talking about problems. I want you to leave sessions with greater understanding, practical strategies, and a clearer sense of what you can work on between sessions. As a retired Army Veteran, I also understand the importance of meeting people where they are and recognizing the different experiences that shape who we become. You do not have to navigate everything alone. We will work together at a pace that feels supportive and meaningful to you.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We begin by getting to know you and understanding what brought you to therapy, what has been challenging, and what you would like to be different. During the first few sessions, we will identify your goals and begin developing a plan that fits your needs. Therapy is collaborative, so we will regularly check in about what is helping and make adjustments when needed. Depending on your goals, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), client-centered approaches, and practical coping and communication strategies. Sessions may include exploring patterns, processing emotions and experiences, strengthening communication, setting boundaries, challenging unhelpful thoughts, and practicing new ways of responding to difficult situations. I also believe in making therapy practical. When appropriate, you may leave with a few specific skills or strategies to practice between sessions so that the work continues beyond our time together.
