Walter Bowers, LPC

Psychotherapist
AL
My name is Walter Bowers, and I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with over 25 years of counseling experience and more than 20 years of licensure. I hold a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s in Psychology from Troy State University, and I am currently pursuing a PhD at Capella University. Throughout my career, I have helped many clients make positive choices regarding the challenges they bring to counseling sessions. My approach is rooted in rational choice theory, specifically Dr. Robert Glasser's Choice Theory. My approach Dr. Glasser's Choice Theory has been and continues to be an effective method for helping clients gain clearer focus and live healthier lives. This theoretical framework helps clients understand that while they cannot change the past, they have the power to make better choices moving forward, preventing them from reliving past difficulties repeatedly. I teach clients how to avoid being stuck thinking about things beyond their control and how to apply the theory to their own lives. This empowers them to realize that the only behaviors they can control are their own. Many clients who come to me are overly focused on trying to change others or are weighed down by past events, which hinders their ability to function in the present. My reality-based counseling approach provides a foundation for learning that personal behavior control is key to progress. My focus I primarily work with individuals struggling with relationship issues, including infidelity and trust concerns. Additionally, I provide support for clients experiencing stress from various sources. My practice addresses anxiety, depression, grief, and confusion about life choices, as well as societal stress, all through the lens of Glasser’s theoretical approach. In summary, my client focus includes anger management, depressed moods, grief, couples counseling, panic attacks, and conflict resolution.
