Getting to know Weena Gonzalez

Hi, thanks for stopping by! I am no stranger to the challenges of change. At 11 years old, I left my native Havana, Cuba, with my family for a new life in Miami, Florida. Being an introverted person and speaking English as a second language, I still decided to pursue my dream of becoming a mental health professional. As an early student of Psychology at Florida International University, I later changed majors to obtain a Master's in Social Work from the same institution, which better aligned with my focus on a more practical approach to mental health. Acceptance of change has continued as a common theme throughout my adult life, as I have grown into roles such as wife, mother, and therapist. The founding principles I have based my professional practice on are empathy, respect, non-judgment, and self-awareness. Very well acquainted personally and professionally with anxiety, I have developed a specialty in this area. My approach to anxiety and mental health, in general, is one of ?working with? rather than ?fighting against.? I have found it effective to start therapy by focusing on where the client is at any given moment and, together, working our way to where the client wants to be. My therapy style is solution-focused, with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral techniques, also informed by systems theory, humanistic, and psychodynamic concepts. I have always been fascinated with the study of the human mind, especially the unconscious, and the impact personal perspective has on the circumstances we experience. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I hope to work in my private practice primarily with adult women clients who are a good fit with this style. In addition, I have worked with clients dealing with depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, behavioral issues, trauma, life transitions, grief, and personal development; facilitating individual, couples, group, and family therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

As most therapists out there, I am passionate about the work I do with my clients to improve themselves and their life quality. However, I also understand the process of starting therapy can be uncomfortable and even scary sometimes. Hoping to alleviate some of this worry for you, I’ll list below the main modules I focus on when working with most clients. -Relaxation Techniques -Thoughts – Feelings – Behavior Relationship -Self-Forgiveness/Acceptance -Mind – Body Connectedness -Advanced Skills

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
