Getting to know Wendi Alvarado

Wendi Alvarado, who holds a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University, is supervised by David Lawson, PhD, LPC-Supervisor. Life throws experiences at us without discrimination, and those experiences can be positive or negative depending on where we are in life and how we handle changes. From having a baby to moving to a new place or the loss of a loved one, these changes can be frightening and difficult to handle without appropriate support and processing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

When clients work with me, I provide a safe space for them to identify those fears that are inhibiting their growth. I have helped clients reflect on their experiences and identify their personal strengths.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I see people and their surroundings through an Existentialist lens, but my approach is eclectic, and I incorporate techniques from DBT, CBT, Strengths-Based, and Mindfulness practices, among others. My area of focus is complex trauma, race/cultural, grief/loss, depression, and anxiety. I have working experience with minors on the autistic spectrum and have incorporated behavioral interventions in therapy.
