“I made tremendous strides with Wendy. I started seeing her shortly after an intensive partial inpatient hospital stay. It's incredibly difficult to find a therapist that won't flinch when you speak of horrific abuse and trauma.”

Getting to know Wendy Aporta

Hi, I'm Wendy, and I'm a LMFT and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional in the state of Texas. I obtained my Master's degree in Psychology with an emphasis in MFT fro Chapman University and am currently pursuing a PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northcentral University. I cut my teeth as a certified domestic violence counselor as an intern, moved to mobile crisis response and suicide hotline as an LMFT-Associate, and then moved into full time trauma work as a fully licensed LMFT. For me, helping those with traumatic experience is not just a job, it is a vocation. I am a perpetual student of trauma, constantly staying abreast of the latest research and treatments to provide the best possible options and outcomes for my clients. I am a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress and the International Society for the Study of Traumatic Stress. My most frequent modalities are Acceptance and Commitment and Internal Family Systems Therapies, as well as Cognitive Processing Therapy, and I use mindfulness-based and neurophysiologically-based interventions within trauma-informed care. I am proficient with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, sexual assault, and acute psychopathology including dissociative identity disorder. In my downtime, as a way of taking time to take care of myself, I am an artist. When I break from the world of trauma in which I work, I paint, sculpt, and produce mixed media art, as well as write prose and poetry. I also like playing with my dog, cat, and my son.
