Getting to know William Abshier

Hello! My name is Will Abshier, LPC (they). I specialize in LGBTQ+ mental health, concerns of gender & sexuality, quality of life concerns, and trauma. My specialty and training comes from 5 years of experience serving the LGBTQ+ community and my own life experiences. It's my strong belief that effective therapy needs to be accessible, individualized, mindfulness-based and solution-focused. I work creatively with each of my clients to provide them a truly meaningful experience in therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My therapeutic approach is solution-focused, evidenced-based, and grounded in mindfulness. I practice Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Behavioral Therapies (CBT & DBT). In treatment I support clients to identify their authentic values and with those discover meaningful paths to a greater quality of life. I enjoy helping folks learn what mindfulness actually means to them (it's not just meditation). Sessions with me are a balance of structure and present moment experiencing.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

It's important to me that goals in treatment are set by clients' own values. Sometimes that can be daunting, maybe you don't even know what those are, and that's okay! I'm here to guide you toward self-discovery and provide helpful practices for doing just that. Sessions with me are structured to prioritize the goals set by my clients and the plan of treatment we create collaboratively. You will likely find me "benevolently demanding" as I use kindness and self-compassion to keep you on track!
