Dr. William (Bill) Cloke, PhD, LMFT

Psychotherapist
12011 San Vicente Blvd, Ste 225, Los Angeles, CA
When I entered college, my curiosity led me to major in anthropology, attracted by its focus on the study of mankind. I was intrigued by how culture affected behavior and the similarities between people. As a Teacher Corps fellow at USC, we worked in teams to bring cutting-edge teaching methods to inner-city schools. From this, I learned the value of service and how to work effectively with a culturally diverse population. As a teacher in the Santa Monica City Unified School District, I developed individualized instruction programs and learned to meet my students' unique needs. I was fascinated by the acceleration in academic performance when their self-esteem improved. This sparked my interest in the relationship between psychology and behavior, leading me to study developmental psychology and attachment theory. I cannot remember a time when I was not curious about people. In 1979, I joined a private psychotherapy practice in Santa Monica. Under the guidance of knowledgeable therapists, I explored the vast field of psychological literature and the complexity of human interaction. I decided to return to graduate school and earned a Ph.D. in psychology from the Chicago School. My training included cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic existential, psychoanalytic, self psychology, and emotionally focused couple therapy. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Northridge, and an MSEd from the University of Southern California. I have developed specializations in anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, anger management, and relationship counseling. Throughout my career, I have worked with people in various ways—from teaching classes, writing magazine articles, appearing on television shows, to roles as a radio psychologist and resident psychologist for an online website.
