William Daddario, LCMHC, LCAS

Psychotherapist
NC
My path to clinical mental health counseling was paved by a career in the humanities. Before earning my MEd in Counseling from The College of William & Mary, I spent over a decade in academia, earning an MA and PhD in Theatre Historiography at th University of Minnesota. This background in theatre history, philosophy, and cultural studies allows me to bring a rare level of depth to the therapeutic process. I don’t just see "diagnoses"; I see a complex human being navigating a world shaped by history, language, and performance.

Getting to know William Daddario

My path to clinical mental health counseling was paved by a career in the humanities. Before earning my MEd in Counseling from The College of William & Mary, I spent over a decade in academia, earning an MA and PhD in Theatre Historiography at th University of Minnesota. This background in theatre history, philosophy, and cultural studies allows me to bring a rare level of depth to the therapeutic process. I don’t just see "diagnoses"; I see a complex human being navigating a world shaped by history, language, and performance.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Most people come to therapy because the "scripts" they’ve been following—at work, in relationships, or within themselves—have stopped working. My approach to counseling is designed for those who want to do more than just manage symptoms; it is for those who want to investigate the deeper structures of their lives and "re-author" their future. In my practice, I utilize a framework I call Performance Philosophy. This approach treats our habits, anxieties, and patterns as "performances"—not in the sense of being "fake," but as creative adaptations to our environment and history. By blending the analytical rigor of my PhD background with the empathetic, evidence-based training of my clinical degree, I help clients: Deconstruct Social Scripts: Understand how external expectations (professional, familial, or societal) contribute to internal distress. Navigate Complex Trauma: Move beyond "coping" to a place of "worlding," where you can create a new sense of self that isn't defined by the past. Existential & Identity Exploration: Provide a sophisticated space for senior scholars, professionals, and creative thinkers of all types to explore life’s "big questions" without the constraints of traditional medicalized therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Instead of following manuals or applying one mode of therapy, I work with you to build a therapeutic process from the ground up. This process tends to lead to change more quickly than typical therapeutic modes because we work with your individuality and idiosyncracies right away. We don't find how you fit a model of "normal." Instead, we work to refine the creative practice of your daily life.
