William Larkin, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who works with adults and couples experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and other challenges that can leave you feeling overwhelmed or stuck. I work to make our sessions feel easygoing, collaborative, and practical. I believe therapy should be more than simply talking about what happened during the week, and it should help you better understand yourself, develop useful skills, and make meaningful changes in your life. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and the Gottman Method for couples. I tailor treatment to each person's individual needs rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is ultimately to help you reach a point where you feel confident navigating life's challenges without needing therapy forever. Whether you're looking to manage anxiety, improve your relationships, work through a difficult period, or simply become a better version of yourself, we'll work together toward goals that are meaningful to you.

Getting to know William Larkin

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is supportive, conversational, and active. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can speak openly without fear of judgment or offending, while also knowing that I may challenge you when I believe it can help you grow. I don't believe therapy should consist solely of me listening and occasionally asking, "How does that make you feel?" We'll work together to understand the patterns and the root behind what you're experiencing and develop practical strategies you can use outside of our sessions. I also value honesty and collaboration. If something isn't working, I want you to tell me. Therapy works best when we can openly discuss what's helping, what's not, and what you need from me. My goal is to create a relationship where you feel understood and supported while still being encouraged to move toward meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session focuses on understanding what brought you to therapy, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like to change. I'll ask questions about your current concerns, relevant history, relationships, strengths, and goals so that we can develop a treatment plan together. After that, sessions become more focused on the issues that matter most to you. We'll identify patterns in your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, or relationships and work on practical ways to change the ones that aren't serving you. Depending on your goals, I may introduce coping strategies, exercises, worksheets, journaling, behavioral experiments, or other skills to practice between sessions. We'll also regularly check in on your progress. I don't want therapy to feel directionless or indefinite. As you develop greater insight, confidence, and the ability to manage challenges independently, we can reduce the frequency of sessions and ultimately work toward a point where you no longer need therapy.
