“William has been my therapist sine 2019. I was definitely experience PTSD, Depression, Anxiety a despair when we first began our sessions. Not only has he been an excellent listener, but he’s also challenged me over the years. He’s extremely adept at revisiting topics we’ve discussed during our sessions when necessary, or when he determines a further discussion is in order. I can definitely appreciate the improvement in my overall behavioral health as well as my overall mental well-being. Sure, I might experience some steps backward, but in general, through therapy, I’ve been able to bounce back. What I appreciate most about William is his compassion, understanding, truthfulness and integrity. You just know when the fit is right between a therapist and patient/client. When I became a patient, I quickly learned that the real work was about to begin and that William would challenge me to find the best version of myself! There is no gratitude enough in the world that I can express.”

Getting to know William Walker

Thank you for considering working with me. I am an in network therapist with insurance providers United Health Care, Providence and the Oregon Health Plan. I am committed to responding promptly to any scheduling request. I provide telehealth therapy sessions and I run an in person mindfulness and meditation group in Southeast Portland. I am a professional counselor with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. I have a calm demeanor and a relaxed conversational style. In my work I draw on influence from eastern philosophy, western psychology and trauma informed care to help my clients interrupt the dysfunctional thoughts and change the life limiting behaviors patterns that contribute to suffering. I use a combination of talk therapy, EMDR and mindfulness training to help my clients improve their mental health. If you are struggling with low self-esteem, intrusive anxious thoughts, cruel self criticism, down mood or you feel stuck in fight or flight mode a little support can help you better navigate life's challenges. I can help you learn to soothe your nervous system and mindfully engage with your life to improve your cognition, regulate your emotions, show up authentically in your relationships and cope with stress in a healthy way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a solo practitioner. I work independently of major health care providers, which gives me the time and freedom to get to know you and your circumstances. I will listen to your experience and goals and provide specialized support based on your specific needs. I encourage people to share openly about there thoughts and behaviors. I do not judge people negatively for their circumstances. I try to show patience and compassion to everyone I see. After establishing a therapeutic relationship and gathering information about the reasons you are seeking counseling we will discuss self care and practicing self acceptance. We will work on developing techniques for resetting your nervous system. Then if you have experienced traumatic events or prolonged exposure to stress we will work together to determine if EMDR would be useful to help reprocess these stressful experiences to reduce their influence over your current stressors. After assessing the situation, building skills and addressing the impact of trauma we can meet as long as it is helpful to support establishing healthy coping and navigate emerging challenges with these new tools.

Will has been an incredible support in helping me navigate grief and untangle PTSD. Through cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR, he’s guided me with compassion, patience, and deep understanding. I’ve always felt supported and never judged—he truly meets me where I am. What stands out most is his consistency and encouragement; he doesn’t give up on me, even when things feel hard. His steady presence has helped me move toward healthier patterns and a stronger sense of well-being. I’m very grateful for his care and dedication.
Will has been my therapist for many years, through my divorce, an early onset diagnosis and navigating coparenting of my four kids, amongst many other hurdles in my life. I candidly feel he has helped me grow to be in a much better place than I thought possible. I feel grateful and less stressed every week after our meetings.
