Xiaowei is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York with a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from New Mexico Highlands University. As a culturally competent therapist, she takes an integrative approach and a comprehensive perspective to understand and support her clients, employing CBT, psychodynamic, person-centered, and mindfulness techniques. What should a new client know about working with you?

Xiaowei values and trusts the healing power, resilience, and strengths within her clients. She understands how painful it is for clients to deal with painful feelings and emotions, such as depression, anxiety, anger, loneliness, isolation, and helplessness. "You are not alone on this." She will be there to support you to help yourself, reduce your mental and emotional stress, understand your mind, take care of your heart, reduce your emotional stress, enhance your mental wellbeing, cultivate self-respect, self-confidence, & self-love, and build up healthy coping skills in your best interest.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The initial sessions, ranging from one to three, will be the time for Ms. Wu to get an overview of who you are, what are going through, and what you would like to get out of therapy, including, such as your family and cultural backgrounds, your upbringings, your challenges and struggles, your social/romantic relationships, your strengths, your interests and hobbies, and so on. It will also be a time for you to see if this is a good fit. After initial sessions, you would have already set up your treatment goals, decided to work together, and started working on what is important for you. Then, you and Ms. Wu will begin with a typical session of talk therapy. A typical session will include starting the session by setting up the goal of today and deciding what you want to work on, going with the flow, processing the issues you have brought up, and closing the session by discussing what you have learned today about yourself and your challenges or difficulties, as well as what you could apply in your daily life about what you have learned today. Through talk therapy, you will get a better understanding of yourself, your abilities, your difficulties, your coping skills, your inner resources, and so on. The ultimate goal of therapy is to successfully accomplish your treatment goals and get you out of therapy.
