Getting to know Yaliza Cepeda

Hi! My name is Yaliza, Licensed Mental Health Bilingual Counselor. I am able to conduct therapy in both English and Spanish. I obtained my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary, which has allowed me to integrate two of my passions: faith and mental health. Carl Jung once said, "I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become." As a trauma-informed therapist, I have learned that healing is not linear; it takes time and courage. I am glad you're here. I have worked with people of all ages and different backgrounds. The work I have done has focused on people from marginalized communities who have experienced trauma, such as abuse, gender-based violence, domestic violence, immigration, and much more. My intention is for you to feel connected to the individual who will partner and walk with you on your journey. I believe we are all relational human beings born to be in relationship with one another. It’s where we love, hurt, connect, and feel most alive. It is also in relationships where we are healed. I approach our work together as two human beings connecting.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe taking a holistic view in therapy, addressing the whole person in mind, body, spirit can bring out the healthiest, happiest version of ourselves. I work from a trauma-informed lens and utilize a multidimensional approach to therapy exploring each individual's biological, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. I understand that no two individuals are the same, therefore I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to counseling. I value the individuality & creativity of all clients. You are the expert of your own life. Therapy with me is truly a collaborative, and interactive process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy is a vulnerable experience. Each individual has their own unique story to tell and it’s important that you find a safe space to be who you are. My approach is based on your individual needs. We are all unique individuals with unique problems and personalities, that's why I find importance in focusing on the whole person, to walk alongside of you and co-create a new narrative. My therapy style is grounded and empathetic. Through empathic reflection and attunement, my goal is to create a safe space where you feel seen and heard. I am passionate about this work and look forward to working with you.
