“at the time of writing I’ve had 102 appointments over the course of 2 years. I met Arielle at a time I was so angry and frustrated with life, and felt I was wandering in the dark repeatedly bumping into walls. today I’m significantly happier. Arielle has supported me through a lot (me repeatedly getting into fights with friends, helping me get diagnosed with ADHD, almost losing my job, going through heartbreak, dealing with my family relationships, and much more). Arielle is patient and empathetic. it’s easy to open up and share things without feeling guilt or shame. she asks a lot of good questions; the most valuable thing I’ve gotten from therapy is an extremely sharp sense of knowing myself, why I do the things I do, why I feel the way I feel, and learning where all my bad habits come from, so I can fix my life by undoing them. *when I first wrote this I wrote 3k characters and have a cap of 1k, so just know I have 3x as much things I’d like to say if it was possible to include. ”

“Arielle is always mindful and helps challenge me to see a different perspective, or at times will just help me or help me begin to process things. I appreciate the recommendations for new strategies to try and help me cope or deal with situations better, even if they don't stick.”

Getting to know Yiwen (Arielle) Yang

I'm a bilingual Mandarin-speaking psychotherapist who specializes in interpersonal relationships, communication, depression, and anxiety. Much of my work focuses on questions of identity, self-understanding, communication, and relationships. I often help clients explore interpersonal patterns, navigate relationship challenges, and build healthier ways of expressing their needs and boundaries. My goal is to create a supportive and collaborative space where clients can reflect on their experiences, gain insight into themselves, and work towards meaningful changes. Having earned my Masters of Arts and Educations in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Columbia University, I'm especially passionate about supporting individuals from marginalized communities. I'm fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and my own experience navigating different cultural contexts informs the way I approach therapy with curiosity, openness, and cultural awareness.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach is inquisitive and exploratory. I work with clients to slow down and examine the patterns, beliefs, and past experiences that shape their sense of identity and how they relate to others. In our work together, I aim to be both affirming and gently challenging, helping clients gain deeper insight into themselves while also developing practical tools for change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), integrating insight-oriented work with skills-based strategies.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I aim to create an open and supportive space where you can speak openly and feel understood. Therapy is a process where trust and connection develop over time, so we will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Early on, we spend time getting to know your story, what has been challenging, and what you hope therapy might help you work through. As we continue working together, we explore patterns in thoughts, emotions, identity, and relationships that may be shaping your experiences. Our sessions may include processing feelings, examining thinking patterns, improving communication and relationship dynamics, and practicing skills such as mindfulness or other coping strategies. Along the way, my goal is to help you build greater self-understanding while also developing practical tools to navigate challenges and move toward a life that feels more authentic and aligned with your values.
