Yvonne Nguyen, MS

Psychotherapist
NY
I support individuals—especially queer women and people of color—who are ready to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and build a more grounded, authentic way of living. Many of my clients feel deeply and think critically, yet find themselves caught in patterns of anxiety, overthinking, self-doubt, or losing themselves in relationships. They may be navigating trauma, identity exploration, relational challenges, or major life transitions. My approach is trauma-informed, relational, and rooted in a deep respect for your lived experience. I draw from mindfulness, somatic awareness, and evidence-based practices to help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, and patterns—while gently reconnecting you to your body and inner sense of safety. Together, we move at a pace that honors you, creating space to process what feels heavy and to strengthen your capacity for self-trust, clarity, and choice. I strive to create a space that feels warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental—where you can show up as your full self without pressure to perform or be anything other than who you are. Therapy with me is not about “fixing” you, but about supporting you in returning to yourself with more compassion, steadiness, and freedom.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients can expect a warm, collaborative, and thoughtful space where we move at a pace that feels right for you. In our first few sessions, I focus on getting to know you—your experiences, what’s bringing you in, and what you’re hoping for—while helping you feel comfortable and supported. My style is engaged and attuned. I will listen closely, ask meaningful questions, and reflect patterns I notice, while also offering gentle guidance, tools, and insights when helpful. I draw from trauma-informed, relational, and mindfulness-based approaches, and may incorporate elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and somatic awareness depending on your needs. Together, we’ll work to better understand your thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns, while building practical skills for managing anxiety, navigating relationships, and strengthening your sense of self. Therapy is a space where you can be honest and explore at your own pace—I’ll meet you with curiosity, respect, and care throughout the process.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first session, we’ll focus on getting to know you—what’s bringing you in, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. You’re welcome to share at your own pace; there’s no pressure to have everything figured out. I may ask questions to better understand your history, current challenges, and patterns, while also helping you feel settled and supported in the space. From there, our work becomes more collaborative and intentional. Sessions typically involve a mix of open conversation, reflection, and skill-building. We might explore emotions, thoughts, and relationship dynamics, while also incorporating mindfulness or grounding practices to help you stay connected to your body and present moment. When helpful, I may offer tools or strategies you can use outside of sessions. Over time, we’ll identify patterns, process deeper experiences, and work toward your goals—whether that’s reducing anxiety, improving relationships, healing from trauma, or building a stronger sense of self. The process is flexible and responsive to your needs, and we’ll regularly check in to make sure our work together feels supportive and aligned.
