I offer in person and virtual therapy to best meet your needs. Therapy provides a safe place to ask the questions that scare us, to find connection and healing, to feel good and be authentic, and take charge of our lives. I support clients' efforts to gain insight into the sources of their challenges and pain, find connection, make positive changes in relationships, identify strengths and resources, cope with personal history, and take charge of their life. I help teens and adults cope with stress, express themselves honestly, and explore personal meaning and purpose. Therapy enables you to manage depression, anxiety and other complaints. I use my skills as a therapist to help people find relief, direction, motivation, and meaning. I use relational psychodynamic methods, with insights from CBT and others. My approach as a therapist is to provide warm and attentive listening, unconditional positive regard, gentle honesty and encouragement, as I join with you in the project of telling and understanding your story, and feeling your best. I have an MDiv and am open to your religious experience. Services available through telehealth and in-person.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Ultimately, therapy is a conversation between two people. The focus will always be on you, your needs, your challenges, your goals. Although the focus is on you, I am happy to share information about myself if is helpful and relevant. My approach is to be warm and inviting, accepting, and showing unconditional positive regard. We will dig into what is happening with you and work to achieve greater understanding, and hopefully arrive at some strategies to cope and better manage what is going on. Diagnosis is important, but it does not define us, and I will always regard you as a person with your own unique perspectives and approaches to your challenges. My goal is to accept and celebrate who you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

A typical session with me will be focused on conversations about your needs, challenges, struggles, goals, joys, and relationships. Our first sessions will focus on me getting to know you, your goals for therapy, and what is important to you. As a psychodynamic clinician, I will be interested in learning at least the basics about your childhood, which may or may not be a focus in therapy. I will be especially interested in understanding your feelings because feelings are a gateway to the unconscious. One of my primary goals is to help bring the unconscious to consciousness so that you have better understanding and more ability to influence your automatic responses and reactions.
