Psychotherapist
MD
Hello, I'm Zelma. I have always known that I wanted to be in the helping professions, and that passion led me to earn my B.S. in Social Work, my M.S. from Johns Hopkins University in Counseling, and my Doctorate degree in Behavioral Health from Arizona State. My journey into therapy was deeply personal—my mother needed a lot of support, compassion, and empathy, and I wanted to be the best I could be in the therapeutic profession to help her and others like her. My approach to therapy is grounded in using the most validated therapeutic techniques to empower you to explore your strengths and build upon your competencies. I believe that everyone has an inner capability to pick themselves up when needed, and my role is to help you discover and harness that power. I pride myself on my active listening skills and compassion for your unique situation, and I am dedicated to assisting you in finding solutions that work best for you in your environment and meet your goals. I specialize in a wide range of areas, including anxiety, ADHD, autism spectrum support, bipolar disorder, depression, developmental disabilities, family relationships, gender identity, grief and bereavement, LGBTQIA+ support, life transitions, medical issues and physical health, military and veteran support, multicultural and diversity issues, OCD, perinatal support (pregnancy, prenatal, postpartum), phobias, PTSD, intimate and romantic relationships, psychosis and schizophrenia, sex and intimacy issues, sleep disorders, somatic symptom disorder, learning disorders, spirituality, stress, suicidal ideation and self-harming, and trauma. I also offer SonderMind Video Telehealth for those who prefer or require virtual sessions.
