About Dr. James Shepherd III
Dr. James W. Shepherd has nearly 20 years of experience providing exceptional care as a Family Physician at Pleasant Lake Medical Center. He joined the practice in December 2002 after spending just over a year at a previous office as a family physician. His patients appreciate his ability to explain medical issues in language that is easy to understand.
Dr. Shepherd completed his undergraduate work at Brandeis University, graduating magna cum laude in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He attended medical school at the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from 1994 to 1998. Following graduation, he completed his residency in Family Medicine at the University of Massachusetts, Worcester, from July 1998 to June 2001.
A board-certified physician in family medicine, Dr. Shepherd was an instructor with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Family Medicine Residency Program from 2001 to 2002. He has served as a preceptor for Boston University Medical School students from 2003 to the present. From 2006 to 2008, Dr. Shepherd was chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Cape Cod Hospital.
