About Dr. Philip Hanrahan
Growing up in Manhattan, I watched my brother manage life with diabetes and found myself drawn to understanding the science behind illness rather than simply accepting it. That early experience, combined with a deep passion for science - and maybe a little inspiration from Dr. McCoy of Star Trek - set me on the path to medicine. I wanted to understand how the body works, why it breaks down and what it takes to truly make people well. My path to medical school was made possible through a United States Air Force scholarship, a distinction I am proud of to this day. My time in the Air Force shaped not only my career but also my character and commitment to service. Illness annoys me, and I mean that in the best possible way. My goal is not just to treat a condition but to help patients genuinely understand what is happening in their bodies. An informed patient is a healthier patient, and that philosophy drives everything I do. I take a highly involved approach to care. I will see any patient at any time I am in the office, and walk-ins are always welcome during walk-in hours. Because I make time for every patient who walks through the door, I can't always guarantee I'll be right on schedule, but I can guarantee you will be seen. Outside the office, I am a husband, father of two and grandfather of three (for now). Having grown up in New York City, I long ago traded the urban landscape for wide open spaces. Travel for me means nature, not cities. The beach is a favorite escape, and I spend as much time there as I can. Science has been a lifelong passion, and I read widely across both nonfiction and fiction - a habit that started young and never stopped.
