“This is a wonderful program. I joined because I was suffering from severe anxiety, low self-esteem, and depression. I was feeling constantly irritable and snappy with the people around me and I just couldn't seem to break the cycle. The Meru Health program gave me the toolkit to overcome these feelings and become a happier, more functional person. I've learned to pull myself out of thinking traps that normally would have caused me to spiral and end up not being able to get out of bed for days. The HRVB is also great for learning to self regulate and I still use it daily. I am so grateful for everything I've learned from this program and would recommend this to anyone suffering from anxiety, depression, or just generally feeling burned out.”

Getting to know Aaron Short

English/Spanish-speaking psychotherapist Please be advised that we do not accept any insurances managed or connected with Medicaid or Medicare. Thank you. Joicy is the founding psychotherapist at Salgado Psychotherapy. She holds a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, Brooklyn College, and is licensed to practice in New York. She has 9 years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. She has supported individuals with a wide range of mental health conditions, from mild adjustment disorders to personality disorders. Her philosophy is that through conversation and exploration, we can become aware of patterns created through life experiences, develop healthy ways to navigate interactions, and live a stable and healthy life. There is no ?one size fits all? approach to therapy. Joicy uses a combination of practices focusing on psychodynamic, humanistic, and decolonized approaches. She believes exploring current situations paired with reflecting on past experiences fosters awareness, which can drive change if desired. As a first-generation Queer Quechua-Peruvian immigrant, Joicy relates to the unique experiences individuals face beyond life's challenges and mental health conditions. Her therapeutic training has aided various communities, and her personal experiences serve as a source of empathy. This includes immigrants, children of immigrants, BIPOC, racialized individuals, and communities. She supports clients in developing skills to navigate life, with a holistic focus on mental health. Allyship, privilege, racism, homophobia, colorism, the history of colonization on mental health, and intersectionality are topics discussed within therapy.
