Acea Starks, LPC

Psychotherapist
GA
Hi there, I'm Acea! I am a non-traditional therapist with a holistic approach to mental health. I believe in the power of collaboration with clients. We are a team. My approach I have a conversational, eclectic approach to mental health. I am easygoing and understand the stressors of therapy. My goal is to make therapy something not dreaded, even though the subject matter is often difficult. I meet everyone where they are. My approach is eclectic because there are no one-size-fits-all treatments. I am open but believe in setting goals and accountability. My role is to provide clients with tools to navigate their unique issues. My focus I have extensive experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community and count myself a part of it. I also work with minority clients. I am a little "out there"-piercings, tattoos, purple hair, a bit of an old goth. I see self-care as vital and try to cultivate a well-rounded approach in clients. I am conversational, perhaps because I came to mental health services later than some. My communication style Open communication is important in therapy. I am conversational; rapport matters, and lectures don't foster that team feeling. The only thing I ask for is honesty. My journey to mental healthcare I came to mental health services later than some. I was an English major initially and love writing and language, so I sometimes use obscure words or references-just ask if unclear. My second attempt at higher learning was nursing, driven by a desire to ease suffering. Later, I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Walden University, which helped me develop skills to support clients effectively.
