Ada Karlstrand, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
What is it like for you when you wake up in the morning? Is it hard to get going, or do you struggle with painful thoughts and emotions from the start? If you are struggling with depression, this is a very normal symptom. I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, and trauma. My focus is twofold: 1) helping clients find regulation in their body and nervous system, and 2) nurturing the mind to compassionately understand why it does what it does, helping it shift toward healthier choices. Because there is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health, I use different modalities depending on what we collaboratively decide will serve you best. I will help you make an informed decision about whether a top-down approach, which uses cognition (thinking) and looks at how the mind processes information, beliefs, values, and higher mental processes, or a bottom-up approach, which uses sensations and messages from our body to guide therapy, will best benefit your healing journey. I use an integrative approach employing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, Polyvagal Theory, and other somatic approaches. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco, which informs my compassionate and evidence-based practice.
