“She asked very direct questions to get to the crux of an issue without tap dancing around an issue. She also realized that she may not be the best option for me quickly and found a solution for me via three different options to select from before we went down the trail of therapy then realizing that we would require switching therapist.”

Getting to know Akemi McGoogan

Welcome! Thank you for stopping by! I am a licensed clinical social worker in the states of Georgia and North Carolina. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC (Eagle Pride!) and my master’s degree in Direct Practice Social Work from the State University of New York at Albany. I am a motivational therapist and believe that nothing will change unless you do! I embrace the law of attraction, holistic therapies, and the power to manifest anything we want in our lives. It all begins with our thoughts. I am passionate about helping shift our mindset from defeat to empowerment. While I enjoy working with all populations, I have a tender heart for clients affectionately known as “Mom!” I recently authored two books: *15 Minute Journal Prompts for the Postpartum Mom* and *Mindful Mandalas for Moms.* I also have experience working with children, military servicemen and women, couples, and young adults. I am a knowledgeable, warm, and goal-oriented therapist. I use a variety of treatment modalities tailored to your needs. My primary focus includes: - Solution-Focused Brief Therapy - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - Mindfulness - Acceptance and Commitment Focused Therapy I am happy to refer individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, eating disorders, or substance abuse disorders to one of my trusted colleagues. I meet you exactly where you are with zero judgment. I’d love to help you move from feeling anxious, confused, depressed, or “stuck” to gaining clarity, feeling hopeful, happy, and “unstuck”! Let’s make the world your oyster! It would be my pleasure to work with you. Akemi McGoogan, MSW, LCSW

What should a new client know about working with you?

Once I've been able to gather an overview of your situation & background at the first session, we will move to identify what problem to address first. At follow-up sessions, I will pay attention to any thought patterns that may be a barrier or areas of skill building to implement. As I strongly believe it is up to the client to determine whether the process is helping, I will check in to do "mini-evaluations" every few weeks.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
