"Hello, my name is Alan Romano. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree, and I have been providing therapy to individuals, couples, and groups for over four years in South Florida. I love the work that I do because I get to sit in a room with another human and remember what it means to be human together. Embodiment brings pain, and in our culture, we have yet to evolve, or possibly have devolved, into a conditioned state of not being allowed to share our pain with the world. Conditioning makes us all walk around wearing masks, fracturing our identities and only showing up in any space with fragments of self, hardly ever showing up in our wholeness—our authentic self. The lack of collective space for the suffering we endure as humans to be experienced and witnessed in a held container is what leads us to suffer internally. That suffering shows up presenting as various diagnoses: Major Depressive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Substance use... you get the idea. The lens through which I view myself, the world, and my clients is that we all have complex PTSD. We just have had different conditioned responses from our nervous system that have led to different symptoms that become stuck and rigid due to repeated wounds and the need for coping. I do believe that each person in our culture has Complex PTSD; many of them just haven’t been wounded enough to seek care. If you are someone who is tired of the pain and suffering you’re enduring, I invite you to spend some time unraveling the mystery of self. I often use the Socratic method in my work, meaning I ask a lot of questions to get to the pain that’s underneath the symptoms that you are struggling with. Self-exploration generally comes from being wounded enough to go through the pain of healing.
