Alayna Renwick, LPC, CRC

Psychotherapist
PA
At OtherKind, I specialize in therapy for body-focused repetitive behaviors, phobias, anxiety, and career stress. I work especially well with young adults who are motivated for change but feel caught in patterns of avoidance, overthinking, burnout, or self-criticism. You may replay conversations long after they end, worry about how others see you, avoid situations because the anticipation feels overwhelming, or struggle with repetitive behaviors that bring short-term relief but are difficult to stop. Work may follow you into evenings and weekends, leaving little room to recover. My style is warm, empathetic, validating, and honest. I focus on building a relationship where you can speak openly without feeling judged or pressured to present a polished version of yourself. Together, we look at what triggers a pattern, how you respond, and what keeps it going. My background includes trauma-informed treatment, suicide-intervention training, and experience in inpatient, school, community mental health, and virtual settings. I bring that perspective to structured, collaborative work that connects insight with practical change. The goal is not to eliminate every anxious or uncomfortable feeling. It is to help those feelings have less control over your choices, your time, and the life you want to build. I offer therapy through virtual appointments.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My style is warm, empathetic, and honest. I want you to be able to talk about what is actually happening, including the things that feel embarrassing, contradictory, or difficult to explain. You do not need to arrive with an organized story or the right words. You can expect me to be engaged in our conversations. I will ask questions, share observations, and help you examine situations from perspectives that may be harder to access when you are in the middle of them. When I suggest trying something differently, we will discuss why it might help and what feels manageable. There is room for both support and challenge. Feeling understood matters, and so does having someone help you work through the places where you keep getting stuck. We can take difficult experiences seriously without losing sight of what you want to change. You do not need to feel confident or fully ready before beginning. A willingness to talk honestly about what is difficult is a starting point. As we work together, I will invite your feedback about the pace, our focus, and how the work feels. You can disagree with me, ask for clarification, or tell me when something does not fit.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The work usually begins with a focused assessment period. Early sessions are used to understand how anxiety shows up in your daily life, how it affects your relationships and functioning, and what patterns keep it going. We clarify goals together so therapy has direction rather than feeling open-ended or vague. Sessions are structured and active. We typically review what has come up since the previous session, examine specific situations or patterns, and work on applying skills or strategies in real time. This may include investigating thought patterns, emotional responses, behaviors, and relationship dynamics connected to anxiety. When appropriate, sessions may involve planning or reviewing exposure-based work, including ERP. My role is engaged and directive while still collaborative. I ask questions, offer observations, and help connect patterns across situations. Therapy is not just about talking through experiences — it is about learning new ways to respond to anxiety, uncertainty, and internal pressure. Most sessions include concrete takeaways or practices to continue between sessions so the work does not stop when the session ends. Progress is discussed openly and revisited regularly. If something is not helping, we adjust rather than stay stuck. Sessions are weekly to sustain momentum and drive meaningful change over time. Therapy is designed to be focused, intentional, and grounded in real life. The aim is to help anxiety loosen its grip so it no longer drives decisions, relationships, or self-expectations.
