Getting to know Alfredo Laris
I believe that the power of vulnerability is one of our greatest strengths and can ultimately provide us with a more profound sense of self, security, comfort, and compassion toward one another. Coming from a strength-based approach to therapy and support, I work to provide my clients with a sense of validation and comfort.
As a cis male who identifies as Latinx and as a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I hold the experience of living through many diverse, cross-cultural emotional experiences that we sometimes may not even know how to begin to understand. I provide services in Spanish and am well-versed in the Chicano Spanglish that is culturally relevant to my experience and, I'm sure, to that of others. I have worked with a range of communities and have experience in community mental health, providing intensive case management to clients with severe and persistent mental health illnesses. I am an easygoing, open-hearted, direct, and diplomatic presence, and I work diligently to build rapport with my clients.
I earned my Master's in Social Work from Smith College, which has deepened my commitment to social justice work, including addressing issues of racism, systemic racism, prejudice, and socioeconomic disparity. I strive to provide an open space that is warm, validating, and safe for my clients. I believe that knowing our hearts is our greatest weapon against low self-esteem, hate, and oppression.
