Psychotherapist
TX
Welcome! I’m Alicia Kientz, MA, LPC, founder of Sunday Counseling, PLLC. I specialize in working with late teens and women in their twenties who are smart, self-aware, and exhausted by masking, perfectionism, anxious attachment, and chronic overthinking. My Experience & Background: I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. and I am currently a PhD student in Counselor Education & Supervision at Colorado Christian University. This advanced academic and clinical training allows me to provide a deeply grounded, highly skilled, and trauma-informed space for my clients. My Approach to Care: Therapy shouldn’t feel like an interrogation, an exam, or a clinical checklist. At Sunday Counseling, I create a warm, unhurried, and explicitly anti-shame environment where you never have to perform. I view anxiety, codependency, and emotional suppression not as flaws to fix, but as protective strategies that once helped you survive. Grounded in Gestalt, experiential, and relational therapies, my work brings awareness into the present moment. Instead of heavy overhauls or rigid homework, I use safe, low-risk, playful experiments to help you build deep self-compassion, emotional freedom, and real choice. Areas of Focus: ⚬ Anxiety, Overthinking & Burnout ⚬ Codependency, People-Pleasing & Anxious Attachment ⚬ Life Transitions & Early Adulthood Identity Shifts ⚬ Faith Deconstruction & Spiritual Shaming Recovery If you're ready to trade impossible standards for curiosity, rest, and ease, let's connect.

What should a new client know about working with you?

If you are wondering what it is like to work together, here is what you can expect from our time in session. Therapy should never feel like an interrogation or a clinical exam. At Sunday Counseling, I create a warm, unhurried, and explicitly anti-shame space where you never have to perform or pretend you have it all together. My Style & Approach to Care ⚬ Human First, Therapist Second: I show up as a real person, bringing warmth and presence rather than clinical distance. We focus on genuine human connection. ⚬ Emotions as Information: I view anxiety and codependency not as flaws to fix, but as protective strategies that developed to keep you safe. Understanding these patterns helps lift the heavy weight of shame. ⚬ Bravery Through Play: Instead of rigid homework, we use safe, low-risk, and slightly playful experiments. Like shifting one card in a game of Solitaire, small shifts can transform how you experience your life. ⚬ Here-and-Now Awareness: Grounded in Gestalt and experiential therapy, we tune into what your mind and body are doing in real time to build true choice. What You Can Expect You can expect to trade impossible standards and chronic overthinking for deep self-compassion, grounded boundaries, and real ease. You don't have to carry it all by yourself—let's take it one small, brave experiment at a time.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We start with a quick online note and a free 15-minute consultation to ensure a great fit. Ongoing sessions are 50 minutes, held 100% online via secure telehealth video across Texas. In session, we follow your lead organically, treating your emotions as valuable information to help you trade burnout for rest, ease, and authentic choice. Let's be brave together!

More information on payments and coverage

Insurance Coverage & Payment Details - Session Fee: $165 per 50-minute individual session. - Accepted Payment Methods: Credit card, cash, check, and HSA/FSA, processed at the time of your appointment. - Insurance Approach: Sunday Counseling operates as an out-of-network provider and does not bill insurance directly. However, itemized receipts (superbills) are provided upon request at the end of each month for you to submit to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card before your first session to verify your specific out-of-network benefits. Financial Assistance & Sliding Scale Investing in therapy is a meaningful commitment—both emotionally and financially. I am passionate about ensuring that money never stands as a barrier to receiving the support you deserve, while also maintaining a fair and sustainable practice. If the full rate feels out of reach, please know that open conversations about pricing are always welcomed and encouraged. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are held in the practice to help make care accessible. If we determine we are a great clinical fit, we can talk transparently about what financial options will make therapy sustainable for you.
