Alise Lindsey, LPC

Psychotherapist
VA
Hi there, I'm Alise! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia. I hold a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling from Seton Hall University and earned my bachelor's from Roanoke College. I work with adults—individuals and couples—to help achieve healthy relationships, ideal sexual functioning, healing from trauma, and improving symptoms of depression and anxiety through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Gottman Method, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My approach I focus on connecting with clients to build trust and safety. From there, I use an eclectic approach; we can move from CBT to DBT in a session. I emphasize psychoeducation because I want you to understand what we are doing and why. When assisting with trauma, I use EMDR, while my work with couples is rooted in the Gottman Method. I rely on research-based information to support all my work. My focus I typically work with adults from their mid-twenties to mid to late fifties. My clients are eager, invested, and committed to change. Most come experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress. They often have difficulty in relationships—family, friends, work—and aim to find themselves and/or define their relationships' parameters. My communication style In my personal life, I enjoy laughter, so you can expect humor in sessions when appropriate. I communicate in a kind, yet direct manner. I aim to create the same healthy space I encourage you to create with others outside sessions. You can expect me to ask about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences because the session is about you! While this is a no-judgment zone, it is also a space for accountability. My journey to mental healthcare I went to college planning to become a high school English teacher. Upon realizing how much teachers deal with, I saw that being a therapist was a more direct route to helping people.
