Alison Leon, LMFT

Psychotherapist
GA
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a Master's in Marriage and Family Counseling from Capella University. I enjoy working with families of teenagers and also work with individuals, greatly appreciating the opportunity to help others. Before becoming a therapist, I was an educator for 11 years, specializing in prenatal through age 5. My approach My therapeutic style blends Narrative and Solution-Focused approaches. I am very open-minded and thrive when working with diverse groups. My focus I typically work with teenagers and anxiety. I also provide group, couples, and family counseling. Although I do not hold specialization certificates, I like to work with grief and trauma, mostly sexual trauma. My communication style I am an open communicator-easy to talk to and not quick to react. My communication tends to be soft, but I can be more blunt if asked. I also like to use humor. My journey to therapy I have wanted to be a therapist since I was 14. What initially drew me was feeling misunderstood by my parents and wanting to help teenagers and parents understand and communicate better. I was a peer mediator from age 8 through graduation at 18. My career began in education, where I was a teacher and administrator for 11 years. Throughout that time, I felt a strong desire to help families more, which renewed my passion for therapy. My goals for you I am very attentive to my clients' needs, picking up on verbal, physical, and facial cues. I strongly believe clients should lead their goal-setting, and I am here to guide them if needed. My first session with you In our first session, I will review HIPAA, confidentiality, ethical codes, boundaries, goals, your desire for therapy, and other logistics. You can also expect a "getting to know you" activity to help us begin building rapport.
