Alissa Bagan, MS

Psychotherapist
WA
I strive to cultivate a way of being that allows for a felt sense of safety and trust to develop between my clients and me. It is no small thing to venture into our internal worlds with one another, and it is an honor to join with the brave clients who invite me. The therapeutic process can take many forms depending on what you hope to accomplish, but I come from an approach that centers on relationship and trust as our foundation. My background includes expertise in Interpersonal Neurobiology, Attachment Theory, and Systems Theory, and I also draw from evidence-based approaches including Psychodynamic, ACT, and Mindfulness. Having been in practice for 15 years, I believe there is always a reason we do the things we do, even when those things get in our way. Understanding how the mind and brain adapt to environmental conditions frees us from judging ourselves and opens the door for greater compassion and change. I received a BS in Psychology from San Diego State University and an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University. I hold a specialization in Medical Family Therapy (Health Psychology) and an advanced specialty in Interpersonal Neurobiology applied to attachment and trauma. I’ve worked in community mental health as a graduate intern and in medical settings including Harborview Hospital, Northwest Primary Care, and South Tabor Family Physicians as a behavioral health consultant. Currently, I’m faculty at Portland Community College teaching The Interpersonal Neurobiology of Attachment and Trauma and have also taught at Portland State University and Seattle Pacific University. I enjoy combining clinical work and teaching, as well as interests including improv, animals, swimming, and movies.
