Hi there, I'm Alyson! My name is Alyson Pena, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of California. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling from Walden University and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Central Missouri. I am deeply passionate about guiding couples to create healthy, connected, and fulfilling relationships utilizing Relational Life Therapy (RLT) and Gottman methods. I help couples who are stuck in repeated patterns of hurting each other, feel alone in their marriage, and simply want to feel desired again. My approach I utilize Relational Life Therapy (RLT) and Gottman methods to lead couples to change. These approaches help decrease conflicting verbal communication that is triggering, establish boundaries and healthy interaction, and increase intimacy and love between couples. My focus I work with couples experiencing communication issues, disconnection, betrayal, isolation, and unhealthy coping mechanisms. The couples I see are struggling to get through the day with their partner, don't know what to say or do, and are experiencing hopelessness. My communication style I am warm, empathetic, and curious. I create a safe space for couples to explore what is not working in their relationship and encourage steps toward intimacy and growth. I provide suggestions, tools, and action items to complete outside of therapy. I am an active listener and not afraid to offer gentle confrontation when necessary. My journey to therapy In working with couples, I am drawn to the unhealed and acknowledge wounds that maintain disconnection, hurt, and loneliness between partners. In 2017, I had an “aha” moment and realized that the “dyad” of two people contributes to more change and growth than someone alone in therapy. A significant relationship and who you choose to spend your life with is the most important decision you can make.
