Getting to know Amanda Murray

We are all seeking to be understood, embraced, and accepted while we navigate through life. Expecting these things from your therapist shouldn't be a difficult ask, and you can count on me to be exactly that for you. I honor the step you're taking and celebrate your courage to get here. While I genuinely love working with people from all walks of life, I specialize in working with adult survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other similar traumas. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches to create a tailored plan for each individual. I am passionate about my work with Gender, Sexual, and Relationship Minorities (GSRMs), including those who are LGBTQ+, and people who practice non-traditional relationships such as non-monogamy, polyamory, swinging, open relationships, BDSM/kink lifestyles, and more. I am friendly to both monogamous and non-monogamous folks and am a sex-positive therapist. I work to create a safe space where your identity will be honored and respected, allowing you to be your full, authentic self. I believe that in order to grow, we must first feel safe to do so. I look forward to finding out how I can best serve you so that you may find personal acceptance and peace. I hold a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to support you effectively on your journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While clients enter into therapy for a variety of reasons, either for long-term support or for developing coping skills for one specific issue, my brand of therapy aims to be accepting, non-judgmental, and all-about-you. I certainly attempt to offer clarity and helpful information as well, but I do not believe therapy can be effective without the client first being able to trust and feel accepted in their sessions. Talk therapy sessions are client-led which means you decide what we talk about unless otherwise specified and I provide support and feedback to you. EMDR sessions are much more structured, but still focused on you.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

I feel completely safe with Amanda and I trust that I can speak and feel freely and honestly when I'm in sessions with her. Our connection and conversations always feel genuine. She's very patient, positive, encouraging, and empowering. We have a lot of personal traits and interests in common and she seems to understand me very well. We tend to laugh together often. She also always takes me seriously no matter what I'm saying, even if my thoughts sound like nonsense to me. The ways in which she explains things when I ask questions always makes perfect sense and helps me understand myself and my struggles much better. I always miss talking with her when our schedules are disrupted for more than a week or two. I've been seeing her for a little over a year now and I can already tell that my mental health has been improving thanks to her help and support.
