Hi, I’m Dr. Amanda! I help adults who feel overwhelmed by intense emotions, stuck in patterns they want to change, and ready to create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. Many of my clients have experienced trauma and now struggle with anxiety, depression, irritability, low self-esteem, mood shifts, relationship difficulties, and a persistent sense of feeling disconnected from themselves or others. One of the most common effects of trauma is avoidance. You may find yourself avoiding difficult emotions, uncomfortable conversations, painful memories, or situations that trigger anxiety and self-doubt. While avoidance can provide temporary relief, it often keeps people feeling stuck and prevents them from moving toward the life they want. In our work together, we will explore how past experiences may still be influencing your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of self today. I will help you identify recurring patterns, understand where they come from, and develop healthier ways of responding that feel more grounded, intentional, and aligned with your values. My goal is to help you move beyond simply understanding your patterns and begin actively changing them. As therapy progresses, many clients find themselves feeling more confident confronting challenges rather than avoiding them, more secure in their relationships, and more connected to who they are. Over time, life can feel less overwhelming, relationships can become more stable, and you can develop a greater sense of trust in yourself.

Getting to know Amanda Werdann-Mendez

Many of my clients have experienced trauma and now struggle with anxiety, depression, irritability, low self-esteem, mood shifts, relationship difficulties, and a persistent sense of feeling disconnected from themselves or others. One of the most common effects of trauma is avoidance.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and tailored to your unique needs and goals. I believe that many emotional, behavioral, and relationship challenges make sense when viewed through the lens of life experiences, and that lasting change occurs when we address both the underlying causes of distress and the patterns that keep it going. I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients gain insight, process difficult experiences, and develop practical skills for everyday life. EMDR helps individuals process and heal from distressing experiences that may continue to impact their emotions, beliefs, relationships, and sense of self. CBT helps identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that contribute to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and other emotional difficulties. DBT provides effective tools for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, helping clients respond to challenges with greater confidence and balance. Using a trauma-informed and strengths-based approach, I provide a supportive space where you can safely process emotional experiences, build insight, and develop practical skills to manage life's challenges. Together, we will work toward reducing emotional overwhelm, increasing self-awareness, improving relationships, and strengthening your confidence in handling situations that may have once felt impossible to face. My goal is not only to help you understand your experiences but also to empower you to create meaningful and lasting change. Through therapy, you can learn to break unhelpful patterns, confront challenges rather than avoid them, build resilience, and develop a stronger sense of trust in yourself and your ability to navigate life's difficulties.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our first few sessions, I focus on getting to know you, understanding your concerns, learning about your personal history, and identifying the goals you would like to achieve through therapy. Together, we will create a treatment plan that reflects your needs, strengths, and priorities. Sessions are collaborative and interactive. Depending on your goals, we may explore current challenges, identify patterns that are contributing to distress, process past experiences, or practice new coping strategies. I often help clients increase awareness of the connections between their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships so they can make more intentional choices and create lasting change. As therapy progresses, we will regularly review your progress, celebrate successes, and adjust our approach as needed. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable being yourself, asking questions, and exploring difficult topics at a pace that feels manageable. My goal is to help you develop greater self-understanding, build effective coping skills, and feel more confident navigating life's challenges both inside and outside of therapy.
