Amy Halter, LICSW

Psychotherapist
MA
Hi there, I'm Amy! My name is Amy Halter, licensed in Massachusetts, Georgia, New York, and Washington. I have been independently licensed since 2018. I earned my Master's in Social Work and Master's in Public Health from the University of Washington. My therapy approach is client-centered, empathetic, and flexible to each individual's needs. I have expertise in treating PTSD, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. My approach I am trained in evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Narrative Exposure, and EMDR. I use these along with creating a dynamic space to use whichever approach feels appropriate for the client. Some clients use all these approaches; others prefer a more open-ended, less formulaic approach. All are available. My focus I have worked with clients from all walks of life. It is important to me to create a compassionate clinical environment open to anyone, however one identifies. My communication style I avoid giving advice and instead listen and ask many questions. I am calm and empathetic, wanting to hear your complicated emotions while sometimes gently challenging unhelpful thinking that may not serve you. My journey to mental healthcare I became a therapist after many years working in a high-intensity emergency department. I provided social work services after severe trauma, drug addiction, mental health crises, and more. I met many people often on the worst days of their lives and never knew what happened after they left the hospital. I decided to get trained in trauma-focused therapy to be part of the long-term healing process. My goals for you Some clients are goal-oriented and find it helpful to set specific goals, while others do not know exactly what they hope to accomplish in therapy.
