Amy Howard, LCSW

Psychotherapist
FL
Hi there, I'm Amy! My name is Amy Howard, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) practicing in Florida. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and my Bachelor’s from the University of South Florida. Based in Sarasota, I meet clients in person, via telehealth, or both, depending on location. My clients range from ages 3 to 93. The central modality I use is Rogerian therapy, from which we branch into approaches best suited to your needs. We start where you are and progress from there. My approach Therapeutic compatibility is important. Initially, we meet to see how we connect—or if you feel comfortable enough to move forward. Once we establish safety and trust, I begin with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and introduce techniques like Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), EMDR, or Biofeedback, as appropriate. My focus I work with adolescents through adults, treating trauma and trauma-related conditions (PTSD), anxiety, depression, co-dependency, and serious mental illness (SMI) such as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Bipolar Disorder, and Panic/Anxiety attacks. My aim is to integrate skills and techniques that support your goals and build positive expectations. My communication style I create a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment. Clients say they initially felt relaxed, that sessions felt more like conversations than therapy, that they felt heard and empowered, and that working with me is like working with a close friend. My journey to therapy My journey began 35 years ago on a dock in upstate New York. I met a woman who seemed very sad, and I asked if she wanted to talk. She hesitated, and I explained that as strangers who would likely never meet again, we could talk freely. We talked for about two hours. When we said goodbye, she paused and said, “Thank you for helping me, things look better now.”
