Getting to know Amy M Smith

I work with individuals desiring positive life changes through a collaborative process. I specialize in assisting healthcare professionals in managing their own mental health under the unrelenting demands of their careers. I also support individuals who find themselves unexpectedly thrust into caretaker responsibilities and need to learn how to re-balance their lives. With a Master’s in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and three decades of experience working in mental health services, I am uniquely qualified to assist not only healthcare professionals but a wide variety of individuals in need.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I will assist in changing the way you think and behave. We will construct solutions rather than focus on the problem. We will build a therapeutic environment of hope, positive emotion, and stay solution focused. The result will be a sustainable behavioral change through practical and readily implementable client designed solutions.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Amy is awesome, she listens and helps reframe what I am saying to help me see I am not as horrible as I think
Amy is the perfect therapist for me. She is encouraging, very funny, way intelligent, She is also amazing at telling me when I have gone around the bend and helps talk me off the ledge when I need it.
I enjoy how she seems to let me have the reins for the session, but she assists in guiding the conversation. Asks questions that make me really think of my situations to the roots of it, not just the issues that arise from it.
Amy has been a dream to work with. She’s helping me navigate a lot of difficult life stressors and I look forward to our sessions each week, I get to start my day talking to someone I feel I’ve known for awhile, and it feels great to get to laugh with her at some of the crazy things life throws my way. I’m happy I found her and I feel hopeful she’ll help me find the tools I need to heal and grow.
She is easy to talk to and reassuring. She helps you tackle issues while making the interaction feel calm and casual, which helps me feel secure. She is fun and intelligent, but direct with her insights.
Today will be my 6th session with Amy and I find myself wishing I had found her before. She's warm, humorous and also calls me out on my BS. She's genuine, authentic, attentive, validating, and sessions with her always leave me feeling better, empowered, confident, and ready for what's next. Thank you forever, Amy.
I cannot say enough good things about Amy Smith! She is such a sincere listener who will meet your challenges with interesting perspectives and strategies to help you move forward. She was thorough in establishing what I am looking for from therapy, and has far exceeded those expectations.
Amy pushes me and this is what I need/want to get out of my rut, to heal and grow personally and professionally. I am grateful for the tasks we come up with during our sessions and I hold myself accountable between appointments. I have good days and bad days but with Amy’s support, encouragement, humor and authenticity, I know I will get to where I need to be.
