Psychotherapist
OH
My name is Amy Nicolazzo, and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor based in Ohio. I hold a Master of Education in Community Counseling from The University of Akron. Since 1997, I have been engaged in the mental health profession, developing proficiency with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, stress, anger management, trauma, substance use, grief, and mood dysregulation, among others. I view therapy as a collaborative effort—a journey taken together. My approach Over my 27 years as a therapist, I have been influenced by many people and modalities. I believe all therapeutic approaches have value and incorporate elements from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamics, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and more. I strive to match my approach to each client’s learning style rather than forcing a fit that doesn’t work. My focus I prefer working individually with adults. Therapy with children, adolescents, couples, and families requires specialized training that I have not pursued. My communication style The therapy relationship itself is paramount to me. I work to create an open and compassionate atmosphere in every session. Over the years, clients have shared that they never felt judged or scrutinized and that they trust me to respond honestly and empathetically. Hearing and understanding you are my highest priorities. My journey to mental healthcare My own therapeutic journey began in the mid-1980s. After experiencing therapy myself, I realized I wanted to support others on their healing paths. I deeply believe in the process of healing and change. My goals for you I typically let clients define their goals and then work collaboratively with them to achieve those goals, step by step.
