Ana Adal, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and hold Master of Arts degrees in Spiritual and Counseling Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. My clinical training includes dual diagnosis treatment facilities focusing on addiction and trauma healing, community mental health settings providing individual, couples and family therapy, private practice for individuals and couples and school based settings. I specialize in anxiety and depressive disorders, trauma, bereavement exploring meaning in mid-life and coping with life transitions. For several years I volunteered for a local hospice program to deepen my work with grief and loss issues. Having traveled extensively throughout the world, I appreciate the nuances of cultural diversity and its unique influence in our lives. Trained in the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) and having my own long time meditation practice, I offer mindfulness based interventions to balance and calm overactive minds. I believe we all have the inner resources and innate ability to access our strengths, intuition and knowledge in order to create the changes and growth we want in our lives in spite of life’s present challenges or past trauma. With empathy and compassion for my clients, I bring warmth, humor and sensitivity to the collaborative therapeutic journey we will share together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am committed to supporting my clients in releasing the self defeating thoughts, beliefs, emotions and addictive behaviors that keep them from experiencing emotional and spiritual wellness. I focus on my clients' inherent strengths as we work together to access their inner healing resources and foster greater self-compassion and peace. My eclectic approach incorporates the integration of practical strategies with mindfulness, transpersonal and emotionally focused individual therapy(EFIT) as well as acceptance based strategies.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Because the relationship is crucial in therapy, I offer an initial fifteen minute Zoom session so we can see if we are compatible. If we mutually agree, we then book a session. During the initial assessment , we explore what the client's strengths and desired goals are as well as pertinent family history. This process continues in later sessions as the exploration deepens and therapeutic interventions are agreed on.
