Psychotherapist
875 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA
“Anamaria Guzman” is a pre-licensed provider working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. I'm Anamaria, a Colombian Clinical Mental Health Counselor at Mental Health Matters. I offer short and long-term individual therapy mainly for adults (ages 18-60). My approach entails psychoeducation, emotional regulation, coping skills, and mindfulness. Using a relational lens and neuroscience, I help clients understand their nervous system's needs, so they can incorporate tools that empower them to grow. Most importantly, I try to bring questions you haven't yet asked yourself, because insight that comes from your own experience tends to stick in a way that borrowed answers don't. I believe mental health is about working with your capacity to make your life bigger. My goal is to support clients in processing, learning new frameworks, and integrating their experiences, so they can confidently exercise their mental health to build capacity to cope and engage in life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

By prioritizing the integration of both mind and body where clients are able to express different emotional ranges and meaning of their lived experiences, I hope to continue to foster a therapeutic space of respect, compassion, humor, acceptance, and warmth.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I work with clients who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, or trauma recovery. During sessions, at their own pace, we explore the experiences and feelings associated with these issues. We collaborate to create a plan and develop coping skills to address them. The client will learn new frameworks and ways of thinking through psychoeducational handouts and mindfulness exercises. Although the process may sometimes feel uncomfortable, clients will safely build tolerance and capacity to create space and hold different emotions.
