Andrea Figueroa, LPC

Psychotherapist
TX
I am Andrea Figueroa, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas and the founder of Grounded With Andrea, a therapy practice for women navigating anxiety, trauma, burnout, and emotional exhaustion. As an EMDR therapist, somatic therapist, and trauma informed counselor, I help high functioning women who feel overwhelmed, overextended, and disconnected from themselves find real, lasting relief. My clinical background includes experience as a Clinical Director, Clinical Supervisor, and crisis intervention specialist in psychiatric care, giving me deep expertise in trauma recovery, nervous system regulation, and mental health treatment for women at every stage of life. I hold two master's degrees in psychology and counseling psychology and am currently completing a PhD in Sociology, focused on trauma, mental health systems, and healthcare inequities. As a therapist specializing in anxiety, overthinking, trauma recovery, nervous system regulation, self worth, identity, boundaries, and burnout, I use a blend of EMDR, somatic therapy, parts work, CBT, DBT skills, mindfulness, and polyvagal informed approaches tailored to each client. I work primarily with high achieving, highly responsible women, including caregivers, professionals, mothers, and entrepreneurs, who are ready to move from survival mode into a grounded, authentic, and sustainable way of running life. My approach is compassionate, evidence based, and rooted in both clinical expertise and lived understanding of stress, caregiving, and healing. I am also the founder of Poderosa Rising, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering women and communities through mental health advocacy and support.

What should a new client know about working with you?

New clients should know that I don't rush the process. I move at a pace that respects your nervous system, not a script, so some sessions are more reflective and some are more skills focused, depending on what you need that week. I ask direct questions and I'll be honest with you, but I'm not going to push you to relive things before you're ready. I use EMDR, somatic therapy, and parts work alongside more familiar tools like CBT and mindfulness, so sessions may include body based check ins, not just talking. If trauma work is part of your goals, we'll build stability and coping skills first before processing anything difficult. I tend to work well with women who are used to holding everything together and are ready to be honest about how tired that's made them. You don't need to have the right words or a polished version of your story. You can come in overwhelmed, guarded, or unsure where to start. My role is to help you slow down enough to hear yourself again.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In a typical first session, we focus on getting to know each other. I'll ask about what's bringing you in, your history, and what you're hoping therapy can do for you, and you'll get a feel for how I work. From there, we build a plan together based on your goals, whether that's processing trauma, managing anxiety, working on boundaries, or navigating a life transition. Ongoing sessions vary depending on what's needed that week. Some focus on talk therapy, working through what's happening in your life and how you're relating to it. Others are more structured around a specific approach, like EMDR for processing a difficult memory, or somatic work to help regulate your nervous system when things feel like too much. I often blend these within the same session rather than sticking to one format the whole time. Before we do any trauma processing work, we spend time building coping skills and a sense of safety and stability first. Healing isn't linear, so we'll check in regularly on what's working, what's not, and adjust the plan as you grow and things shift.
