Getting to know Andrea Marx

Hi! First, I want to thank you for visiting my page and giving me an opportunity to see how my therapeutic style can assist you with reducing your distress and increasing your life satisfaction. I am so honored that you have decided to review my profile and see if I am a good fit for your journey. I have been working as a therapist with a variety of mental health disorders and systemic family dynamics since 2015. I initially pursued a bachelor's degree in Sociology but found that career direction unfulfilling. Upon deciding to pursue a master's degree, I chose to study Marriage and Family Therapy at Alliant International University. Becoming an MFT was a career goal I had as a teenager, so you could say that pursuing this field is a lifelong dream come true. My methods of therapy are person-led. I like to provide space and safety to assist you with addressing the reason or reasons that you made the brave choice to pursue therapy. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, also known as DBT. It is a gentle, evidence-based method that uses mindfulness and increasing internal coping mechanisms to assist with achieving therapeutic goals. Additionally, I can utilize a technique called Brainspotting to help people reduce trauma that is deep and difficult to resolve through traditional talk therapy. The pace at which we move through therapy is up to you. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist. I work with clients who are questioning, in their transition process, as well as those working on their mental health unrelated to their sexual and gender orientation. If necessary, I can consult with you and provide gender-affirming letters when required for insurance, surgical, and hormonal procedures. I really appreciate the time you took to read through all this information, and I hope it helps you make an informed decision.

What should a new client know about working with you?

My initial session with you will be an information gathering that focuses on your history including your family, collecting pertinent information about mental health disorders and treatments and the reasons that brought you into therapy. Typically, these sessions tend to run between 50 to 60 minutes. This allows me to gather information that has impacted you as well as historical information to assist me with conceptualizing your treatment plan. After the initial intake, I will be working with what is brought into each session and the information that you provided in our initial session. Sessions last 45 to 50 minutes and are on a weekly basis. In the beginning we will build a relationship and increase your coping skills through building on what you have and new skills to assist you.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.
