Andres Ruiz, LMFT

Psychotherapist
CA
Hi there, I'm Andres! My name is Andres J. Ruiz, and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I hold a Bachelor's in Liberal Arts and a Master's in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Community Psychology, both from Antioch University Los Angeles. My experience encompasses over 15 years of working with children, adolescents, and adults, providing psychoeducation, social services, and direct mental health therapy in both English and Spanish. I've successfully treated clients from diverse ethnic, cultural, sexuality and gender, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. My relevant experience includes working with people experiencing depression, anxiety, attachment issues, PTSD, impulse control, and conduct disorders. In addition, I've also worked with clients experiencing interpersonal violence and marital challenges. I have worked for multiple community-based mental health agencies, managing child protective services and probation cases, as well as teaching emotional intelligence classes to youth in juvenile hall. I currently teach court-mandated parenting, anger management, and domestic violence classes and have given lectures on various topics related to mental health and education at universities such as UCLA, LMU, Antioch University, and LA Southwest College. My approach is psychodynamic, existential, mindfulness, and play-oriented. My focus is working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, marital issues, phases of life challenges, domestic violence, and anger. My communication style is calm, collective, and mindful. I am gently relentless. My journey to therapy began growing up in South LA, where my mother, a clinical psychologist, motivated me to pursue this career. I've dedicated most of my mental health work to community-based settings in South LA, working with children and adults. I became a therapist to help people manage their mental health issues and to educate them on mental health and self-care.
