Psychotherapist
CA
Angelica Cruz is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their CA license number is 142984, and their current employer is Whole Human Wellness. Angelica earned a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. Navigating this journey that we call life can be challenging and complex at times. And when we've finally made the decision to seek support along this journey, it can be even more challenging to find someone who listens and supports you, empathizes, and collaborates with you in your journey. As a person-centered therapist, I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, empathetic space for clients to show up as they are. By using an integrative and strengths-based approach of DBT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing, I support my clients in adopting new coping skills to begin creating the necessary changes in their lives to thrive. I specialize in working with teens, adults, and couples navigating a variety of struggles such as anxiety/depression, grief, relational issues, life transitions, and trauma. Because of my own personal background, I have also found a passion in supporting bicultural individuals and couples in navigating their cultural identities. Utilizing a Gottman Method approach, I support couples in increasing their conflict management skills while strengthening the love, friendship, and resilience of their relationships. I know that seeking help can be daunting. As a therapist who comes from a culture where mental health is still stigmatized, I understand how culture plays a role in this process. If you’ve made it this far, I want to say how grateful I am that you are here. I would be honored to support you on your healing journey. Looking forward to connecting. – Angelica Cruz

What should a new client know about working with you?

My work with clients first begins with ensuring that there is a sense of trust, safety, and comfortability between my client and I. To me, the therapeutic rapport is vital to establish since I truly believe that a lot of the change I see in my clients begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. This is where my style as a person-centered therapist comes into play as I provide the empathy, compassion, and validation necessary to support my clients. Once this sense of trust and safety has been established, clients can also expect a more directive approach for me. I strive to give my clients simple but practical coping skills that they can begin implementing into their lives. This is where my style as a CBT and DBT therapist comes into play as it allows me to be a bit more directive with clients and provide tons of psychoeducation, resources, and coping skills. And with my training in Motivational Interviewing, I meet my clients where they are at and work with them to get them to a place where they feel ready to begin making changes in their lives to thrive.
