Ann Voorhees, LCSW

Psychotherapist
FL
Hi there, I'm Ann! Welcome to Rula! I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan. My approach to therapy includes person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and psychodynamic modalities; I will tailor our dialogue and plan of care to meet your expressed needs and wants. My areas of practice include trauma, anxiety, depression, codependence, anger, and emotional fatigue. My approach I am an active listener. I offer insight and resources that you're free to take or disregard—you’re in charge of your own healing and recovery and know when you’re ready for new information and when to put those new skills into practice. My focus I work with adults, 18 to post-retirement age. I am versed in issues related to depression, anxiety, and fear where communicating intense emotion is difficult, and you don’t feel heard or understood. My communication style My communication style is mostly informal and warm—sometimes direct and to the point when circumstances merit this approach. My goal is to meet you where you are rather than expecting you to adapt to my style. I use empathy, understanding, and sometimes humor to create an environment of trust. My journey to mental healthcare I graduated with my master’s in 1986; I knew that my passion for advocacy required an outlet, and becoming a social worker fulfilled that need. I spent many years as an administrator and educator within psychiatry and human services—that ran its course until I was drawn back to direct service a few years ago. I’m better now, older and a little wiser, and equipped to support your journey toward self-empowerment. My goals for you My approach to goal setting involves asking you what you want out of therapy, then translating that into your plan of care. My first session with you You can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment to safely share your emotions and concerns.
