Getting to know Ann Woodward Hines

Hi there, I'm Ann! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who has enjoyed a deeply gratifying private practice for 30 years. I see children, adolescents, and adults in my office in Capitola, CA, as well as via telehealth. Local colleagues and physicians refer to me for their clients to work through settling anxiety, move through depression, and find their ground again after divorce, trauma, and life's challenges. My approach First and foremost, I rely on deep listening. We go where you lead. I am a mindfulness-based psychotherapist, looking at past or future-oriented stories we tell ourselves, and reorienting to the present. I use cognitive and somatic psychotherapy, as well as play therapy with young children. For families in transition, I provide co-parent and re-connection therapy. My focus I currently have clients from age four into the eighties. I am comfortable seeing any clients moving through grief, anxiety, healing from trauma, divorce, re-organizing families, and medical challenges. My communication style I have gotten lots of feedback over the years. An environment of focused attention on my clients enables a deep understanding from my end to emerge. I have gotten feedback from clients that they "finally feel 'met', 'heard' and like they have a partner in their journey through this phase of their life. My journey to mental healthcare After three years of teaching, I began graduate school in psychotherapy. During my internship years, I fell in love with the field seeing the dramatic life changes coming about in clients as they worked in groups or individually. When I relocated from Los Angeles to Santa Cruz, CA, I also got my teaching credential to teach at my children's new school for 3 years. I soon became known in the community and was able to start a private practice there in 2002. I asked a psychiatrist to join the practice. We continue to work together in Capitola, CA. I also enjoy presenting to colleagues locally and internationally.
