Getting to know Anna Bezemer
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Richmond, Virginia, with a Master’s in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor’s degree from the same institution. I work with adult clients of all backgrounds, specializing in LGBTQ+ individuals, kink/polyamory/ethically non-monogamous relationships, sex workers, and substance use/misuse recovery and harm reduction. I am passionate about helping people feel comfortable and safe in their own skins while gaining tools to manage their day-to-day lives.
My approach
I approach therapy from a strength-based, person-centered perspective, utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and an eclectic mix of resources tailored to each individual’s needs to help further their goals. I work collaboratively with you, and you set the pace.
My focus
While I work with adults of all ages, I have specific expertise supporting LGBTQ+ folks, those in kink/poly/non-monogamous relationships, sex workers, and individuals navigating substance use/misuse recovery and harm reduction.
My communication style
I bring curiosity and openness to every session—I ask many questions, offer positive feedback, and bring a gentle sense of humor and a smile. I generally keep sessions focused but am happy to meander with you if that’s where you are this week. I offer a variety of resources and like to incorporate different exercises and thought experiments when you’re interested.
My journey to therapy
I have always been fascinated by what makes people tick and have a lifelong passion for understanding human behavior. As an LGBTQ+ provider, I am committed to helping my community heal and thrive in a world that is not always kind to us. My best sessions are those where we can explore things you might not have had space or trust to share with anyone else. I love being a witness and partner in those moments—they inspire me.
