Getting to know Annalisa Barrett

My name is Annalisa Barrett. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Lic #140819) with a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor’s from the University of California, Los Angeles. I have a background in yoga and perinatal health, which informs my integrative approach. I weave mindfulness and somatic techniques with psychodynamic exploration of recurring patterns and adaptive strategies. My sessions are client-led; I encourage clients to share problem areas, and together we collaborate on therapeutic goals and interventions that resonate with them. I previously worked with pre- and postpartum women as a yoga teacher and doula, gaining expertise in supporting women and families through the delicate transition into motherhood and parenthood—a time requiring significant support and compassion. My approach Once a relationship is established, I invite clients to develop emotional awareness through attunement, naming, and present-minded modalities. I offer self-exploration of the somatic (body) experience, revealing where emotions are carried and stored. Talk therapy plays a role when emotions feel overwhelming and grounding in logic is needed. I use narrative therapy to help clients identify core beliefs and ongoing stories about themselves and the world. Together, we examine societal, cultural, and familial beliefs or value structures that no longer serve the client and work to restructure a value system aligned with their current needs. By integrating emotional awareness with meta-cognitive awareness—identifying and changing maladaptive thoughts through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy—we work to change habitual trauma responses and patterns. This supports clients in living free from constant negative thinking, reactivity, and self-judgment. My focus I see many clients who struggle with symptoms of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence.
