Getting to know Anne Marie Mchale Miller

Hi, I'm Anne. I don't know that I could survive in a world without Dunkin Donuts coffee, reading a smutty romance on my Kindle, and a full set of lives on Candy Crush. Those three things and a solid playlist are my staples. My downtime includes figuring out how to pet my three golden retrievers with two hands and binge-watching reruns of Gilmore Girls, Schitt's Creek, or a solid documentary. I am the classic introvert that everyone mistakes for an extrovert, likely because I use humor to mask my own feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. I certainly don't have all the answers, but I love working on life's challenges with people and helping them discover their own strength. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker/Therapist and board-approved Clinical Supervisor with 18 years of mental health experience. I earned my Master's in Social Work from Boston College in 2007 and hold a Bachelor's degree from St. Edward's University. My experience in mental health is primarily focused on working with adolescents and adults. I have extensive experience with struggles related to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, crisis intervention, relationships, life transitions, and everyday stress. Life can be a lot; it can be too much, not enough, or the same thing day in and day out. Therapy is a place to process the bullshit and learn some tools along the way.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Whether you're grappling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or navigating you relationships as you cope with all of those things, it can be challenging to talk about, but it's an important step toward healing. I value open communication and encourage you to share your thoughts and feelings to help guide our work together. My goal is to empower my clients to understand and process their symptoms, develop healthy coping skills and ultimately rebuild hope in their future. In our therapy sessions, you can expect a casual atmosphere where we can chat about life’s ups and downs—without the pretense. I believe in being genuine, so you won’t get any fluff; just real talk and maybe a dose of sarcasm to lighten the mood. My approach is to meet you where you are, using humor to navigate the tough stuff while still addressing your concerns seriously. If you want to unpack your stuff while sharing a laugh along the way, give me a call.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first 1-2 sessions are really just about getting to know one another and determining what things you want to work on in therapy. I usually ask questions about you, your background and what got you to the place you are now. My goal is to build trust so you feel comfortable opening up and working with me. You have to feel comfortable in order to actually share what you are struggling with. I practice traditional talk therapy with a client centered approach.
