Getting to know Anthony Rivera

I have been a Marriage and Family Therapist for the last 13 years, working passionately and supportively with a variety of clients. Prior to that, I spent 10 years in different facets of the mental health system, including schools, hospitals, and group homes. Supporting clients to achieve their goals, heal, and grow is my core focus. I hold a Master's in Counseling from National University, which has provided a strong foundation for my clinical work. My approach is multifaceted and dependent upon you, centered on collaboration. From client-centered to cognitive behavioral approaches, it is important that you feel comfortable working at your own pace-managing present situations while also processing past experiences that may affect your daily functioning. I have worked with a wide variety of clients, both Spanish and English speaking, ranging in age from 6 to 60 years old. My experience includes supporting individuals with anxiety, autism, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. My communication style is tailored to each client's preferences. Regardless of the therapy type, the environment is individualized, and I do not push the pace of the session. Typically, there is a check-in, but beyond that, the session flows at the pace you feel most comfortable with. My journey in mental health began 23 years ago, with experience in community-based therapy, lockdown facilities, in-home therapy, and various schools. Over time, I have found the most rewarding part of this work is providing comfort and support, not just solutions. For you, I believe that focusing on one or two goals related to daily functioning, connected to an overarching goal of lifelong stability and consistent use of coping skills and resources, best serves your progress. These goals are identified collaboratively and can be adjusted as your needs evolve. In our first session, it is important to identify the reasons you are seeking services to ensure we begin with clarity and purpose.
